A while ago, I asked for help in swimming the 500 Free. I just wanted to re-thank everyone that helped me with that race. I actually ended up getting my best time in that event: 734.0-something. So, thank you again!

Had the club state meet up at Carson City. I was shotting for national cuts to help seal in a scholarship with a college but i missed them. But i placed good and got to wear my fastskin so i can't really complain

53.67 100 yard butterfly for fifth place
and a 2:01.42 200 butterfly for third place <- with altitude that a 2:00.22

I got an 8: 47: 03 swimming the 500 Free in meters.  Does anyone know what this is in yards? I'd really appreciate knowing.

Oh! And our team won- the second time! Thanks again for ALL your help on improving times, and for any you can give on this.

Hey all, Speedo is currently doing one heck of a sale on their Fastskin series of swim suits, which is the type of suits that the Olympians are currently using. They're cutting prices on a couple of lines by 70% bringing the bottom line to right around $75. It seems like a high crime not to pick one up with such discounts. But I'm highly on the fence. For the record I am NOT currently swimming competitively. I'm swimming for exercise and for shape and wouldn't consider this purchase under those conditions with the product at it's full price. But as I said, it seems like high crime to pass it up, and I need a new suit anyways. Any thoughts on this? Anyone out there have one and could comment? Link below is for reference.

Hi! I know that this is kind of a slow community, but I was wondering if anyone could help me with something.

I'm a swimmer on a  high school team and, quite honestly, I'm not that good, and looking to improve, especially in the 500 free. I've been told that to do this, I have to improve my pace. And to do that, is it as simple as: swim faster, or is there something I can do to help me swim faster.

Basically, I just want to know if there's a way I can build endurance. Thanks for any help you can give!

Well, I'm not too big on water polo, but I sure do enjoy swimming. I live in Florida, and basically I'll drive to the southeast coast everyday just to be on the beach. Gets me away from my hectic homelife as well.

Hey my name is Ariana.I am a swimmer, cuz I live in Arizona and its the best way to stay in shape and not get killed by the heat. I've been swimming for 3 Years and I've come to love it. This is my senior year and I got my chance to be captain. I had an injury that killed my whole season but it still was an amazing season. And I hope that my physical therapy works so that I can swim My last summer season. :)

Hey everyone, just signed into the community.

I first started swimming back in the fall of 97 when I started high school. Swam for 3 seasons and in as much off season as I could. When 2001 rolled around I had to drop the sport to make time for the college search. By that time I was clocking 2:12 on my 200yd Free and 6:15 on the 500. Went to college, and graduated in May of 2005. FINALLY got back into the water in January of 2006 and despite an unintended hiatus again from June to August I have been trying to swim once or twice a week ever since. Hit a milestone last Sunday and put in 1,000 yards in a 45 minute work out. I was quite pleased.

So, here I am. Looking for a good discussion outlet. This quickly came to the top of my list and so here I am.

Having said that, I've got a question...it's a little weird, and I apologize off the bat.

As I stated before I was and am an endurance swimmer. As I work out, I've noticed that my left arm and peck is considerably stronger and more 'built' than my right. This is to be expected, in part as I am a lefty. But I was a little surprised by how drastic of a difference there really is. I suspect the cause of this is that I tend to pull harder on my left arm than I do on my right, and that the years of competition swimming, the various 'dryland' things I've done during my time away from the water, as well as the return to the water are catching up to a point where the difference is noticeable. This may or may not be true, this is just my theory.

But regardless, does anyone out there have any suggestions, tips, and/or specific exercises I could try to get my right side built up and 'evened out'

I'm new to lap swimming, but I really like it a lot. I have MS, so swimming is the new perfect way to exercise. None of my friends swim, and I've asked probably everyone I know this question. Hopefully you all can help me out.
How far is a lap? Across the pool, or across and back?
My friends always ask me how many laps I swim, but I always have to answer that I don't know how far a lap is. This morning I swam either 80 or 40 laps. Thanks!

Hi everyone!

Well, I'm new to this community (live journal also, in fact), but I've been swimming with a team for about 4 1/2 years now, and I can honestly say I'm hooked. Although there have been some rough times with the people and just how much time you dedicate to this sport, as probably most of you know haha, I really love to swim. Okay so I'm in junior high and one more year untill I start freshman year of high school swim.

My fav event would have to be the sprints. 50 free, 50/100 fly, and 100 breast. Backstroke is my worst stroke. Ugh my backstroke is... haha. Terrible. But I'm not giving up yet! From middle school season, I just recently broke a record (my first yayyy) in the 50 free with a 26. 79 and I'm pretty pumped for summer because I'm hoping if I train hard enough I can break into the 25s. So that's sort of my best event. But I'm pretty bad at long distance. Man I wish I could do long distance though.

So my 50 fly is a 29.33, and my 50 breastroke last season was a 35 something and change. It's nice because in Middle School you can still do the 50 individuals in Breast, Fly, and Back. But I'm pretty excited to get more into the 100s and even long distance races like the 200s and 500s. My coach told me once that in swimming you need to build up. In order to truly master the 50 you need to race in a 100, and to perfect a 100 you need to swim a 200, ext. I don't know if this is true for every athlete but for some reason that's always stuck in my mind.

Im going to state baby. i got second in my region which makes me the fifth fastest in the 100 fly in highschool. I did a :55.04 I basicly went out like a mad man...i had a :25 second split which is what i did when i only had a 50 to do earlier...

On April 8th I have an interview for a lifeguarding position at a summer camp that I worked at last summer[as a lifeguard]. They asked me to bring in a game or two that could be played at the camp. I'm having a hard time comming up with a really original one that would be very very fun. The guidelines: we need to be able to play it with a wide range of ages(think 6-16), with modifications of course. I'm also thinking of listing some 'fill-in' activities for when we have some downtime. Also, some water games that could be played outside of the pool if the pool is unusable.

If anyone has any suggestions AT ALL let me know!! Thank you!

More importantly, I am officially the fastest girl on CSM's swim team, with a 50 free time of 26.08. I am trying so hard to at least break 26, but it's really difficult. I want a low 25 by the end of the season. Any weight training tips? Which muscles should I be most concerned with, that kind of stuff.

For three months i was couldnt swim due to my shoulders. the only thing i could do were kicking and go to rehab. at that point i wanted to quit swimimng because i wasnt enjoying myself.

i only swam three meets and at our conference meet i got my best times in the 200 free and 100 free.

i went a 1:58.84 and 54.96

since now i know how to swim a 200 free i think i could had gone faster.

i cannot wait for next season so i can try dropping more second in the 200 free and try to make ncaa b maybe a cut.

hi everyone. i have a question.
im a REALLY bad runner, but i do it anyway for cross training. recently, the arches of my feet started hurting whenever i ran or even walked quickly for a long time. the last time i ran was tuesday, and my feet still hurt so bad i can barely walk.
i asked my friend about it and he said i probably have the wrong shoes. but i have really nice new balances, a brand ive been using for like 10 years.
what do you think is wrong with me?!?!
